What is the ROM Machine and who can benefit from using it?
The ROM machine is a cross-trainer. ROM stands for range of movement and for ‘diversity of muscle mobility’ which in turn affect the relevant muscle cells.
The ROM machine is suitable for everyone to use, from convalescents to top athletes, due to its personalised technique. The user himself controls the speed of the wheel and the machine adjusts itself hydraulically to the requirements of the user.
The exercise programme runs for only two sessions of four minutes each and is distributed between the upper and lower body. It is the equivalent of a high impact cardiovascular workout but is much less time consuming. The 2×4 minute exercise session may be compared with an 85 minute training run at an average speed of 3 miles per hour and using up 7 ml of oxygen per 02 kg.
The ROM machine utilises 44% of all muscle cells in the body. This is 12 times as many as are used in walking. An unfit 90 year old will take in much more oxygen in this way than by normal walking. The machine adjusts itself exactly to the physical capability of the person using it. Following each session with this exercise method, you will see improved results.
With this system, a person weighing 180 pounds will burn 465 calories with 4 minutes exercise, which is equivalent to 60 minutes workout on a treadmill.
The efficacy of brief exercise programmes and high oxygen intake has been proved and is now increasingly accepted and applied by trainers and sport teams. But we also know that what has been proved scientifically correct still needs more time to become universally accepted ………
