How can Tai Ji and Qi Gong help with arthritis?

In days gone by it was thought that physical exercise would further irritate inflamed joints. However, research has now shown that correctly performed, gentle, controlled and painless movements are of great benefit in the treatment of arthritic conditions.

The gentle movements of Qi Gong and Tai Ji are perfect for arthritis sufferers. It has been proved that these exercises can alleviate the symptoms of the illness and promote mobility. Qi Gong has no sudden or unexpected side effects. The movements come from the muscles and from the Centre (Tantien) and put no pressure on the joints. These gently flowing and relaxed movements allow enhanced blood circulation to the joints, thus optimising their functioning. Qi Gong and Tai Ji also have a positive effect on the body´s whole posture. Blockages and tensions are gradually dissolved. The body finds its way back to its own natural stance and posture, and in this way further pain and damage to the joints is prevented.

Our planned Tai Ji programme has been specifically developed to be used as a daily exercise sequence to combat arthritis. You will exercise your body, giving particular attention to the joints which have become stiff and perhaps also swollen. And in this way, quality will triumph over quantity.
