There are two ways in which Tai Ji and Qi Gong can help with Osteoporosis:

Firstly, practicing these exercises significantly reduces the number of falls In osteoporosis sufferers (falls tend to be the most frequent causes of bone fractures), and secondly, practicing these exercises allows the body weight to be evenly distributed, thus promoting calcium uptake in the bones. Research in the USA has shown that a 13 week training period with these exercises reduces falls by up to 30%. Tai Chi also trains the body´s sense of balance and equilibrium (changing sides and standing on one leg). Tai Ji and Qi Gong are also effective in preventing the onset of Osteoporosis. This is because many of the exercises are performed with bent knees and the body weight is often carried on only one side of the body.
